Welcome to the home of Dominus Tiberius Tarius Britannicus, an Officer of the Praetorian Guard, now in service to the Laurel Kingdom of the East and Domina Gaia Caelia Angelus.

With the pending retirement of our good Baron Pelladres, Dominus Tarius and Domina Gaia have ventured to run for the Baronial coronet in the upcoming election. For the section of the populace that may not know us, or that have questions on what we would wish to do with the coronet, we encourage you to read the following and to pose to us any questions that you may have. We shall respond to any questions, both to you personally and here on the site if they are reoccuring.

Populace Letter

Populace Letter (As posted to the Baronial Website)
Unto the esteemed Citizens of the Barony of L’Ile du Dragon Dormant do Dominus T. Tarius Britannicus and Domnia Gaia Caelia Angelus send our warmest greetings.

We have had five years to taste the fruit that is a Barony from the guiding hands of Baroness Valeria and Baron Pellandres. Now, as fellow Citizens we realize that before us all is a crossroads for the Barony. The direction that we take in the coming years is now up to the Citizens and the new Baron and Baroness.

The direction that we, Tarius and Gaia, wish to see the Barony follow is one that would see growth for the group and a rediscovery of the joy and energy that we once all had for the Society. At its heart the Society is an escape for all of us, an escape from the mundane world and its troubles. Events should be joyful times where we undertake our most beloved of hobbies. We wish to see a golden age form and develop within the group, where new citizens join us as we strive in our various passions. We desire new Warriors, both Heavy and Light, upon our fields, bringing the Baronial Banner before new foes; to see the faces of new Archers the first time that they strike the golden ring of the target; to see the finely made songs and crafts of our Citizens gain word fame and renown.

In addition to the recruitment of new Baronial Citizens, and to helping our existing members rediscover the joy that brought them to the group, we also wish to encourage a change within the group. It is a change that we hold dear to our heart and hope to foster; that of pageantry.

Just as Camelot was the famed capitol of King Arthur’s lands in lore, we wish to see the Barony of L’Ile du Dragon Dormant become renowned; for our heraldic display, our courtly manners, for our gallant warriors, and for our willingness to conduct ourselves in the ideals of a more chivalrous time. Lords should honor all Ladies, and do unto them every courtesy. While Ladies of our court should be beacons of inspiration to one and all, by word, by deed, and by action.

Both of us feel that this is the direction that our Barony should take. We feel that the sleeping Dragon must awaken and rise. Our foes will fear us as we bring them battle. Our banners shall unfurl and be seen throughout the lands. And our good neighbors shall know that their borders are secure as they are guarded by the most noble and skilled Citizens of L’Ile du Dragon Dormant. That is the vision that we have for the future of the Barony.

If you feel that this is the direction that the Barony needs, or if you have suggestion for us, please do not hesitate to contact us. We do wish to thank everyone for the support that has been shown to us already and for consideration in the selection process.

For those who may be interested, we have included additional thoughts and missives upon our personal website; http://www.thehillfort.com

F.A.Q.

The following includes a number of questions that we have been asked by Baronial Citizens over the past few weeks. In an effort to get this information out into the public, for those who may be a bit shy, we present some of the most asked questions;
Q: Tarius and Gaia, what are your real names if I'd like to look you up in the phonebook/facebook/etc? A: Tarius is known in the real world as Matthew Jenkins, a Senior Systems Administrator. Gaia is more commonly known as Marie Roussel, a Flight Attendant with Jazz Air.

Q: Tarius and Gaia when and where did you start in the SCA?
A: Tarius started in the SCA back in 1999, in the Barony of Ruantallan (Nova Scotia, Canada) here within the East Kingdom. Gaia began in the Society in 2004, in the Provience of the Silver Desert, within the Kingdom of the West, but shortly thereafter began playing in Dragon Dormant (upon her return to Canada).

Q: Why did you decide to run for the Baronial Coronet?
A: The answer starts with our shared desire to see the group thrive and grow under a guiding hand of those with a vision. It has been said many times "That when you see a problem, you are either part of the problem or part of the solution." We both desire to be a part of the solution. We feel that we have the eneregy, the devotion, the leadership skills, and the willingness to listen to the populace, that this Barony needs as it sets itself apart from the rest of the Principlaity, and the Kingdom.

Q: Do you see yourselves able to fullfil the position of Baron and Baroness of Ile du Dragon Dormant in the comming years?
A: In short, yes. Tarius and Gaia are firmly tied to Dragon Dormant, having just purchased our first home here in 2008. In addition to the mundane obligations of owning a home, Gaia's work is firmly tied to Montreal, and Tarius has turned down several job offers that would see him move elsewhere. From the SCA standpoint, we have each been in the Society for some time and we have no intention of pulling back now. At times work and mundane life has kept us more busy than we wish, but we feel that such is the same for every member of the group.

Q: What do you each do within the SCA?
A: Gaia's interests within the Society include; Archery, the Bardic Arts, the Art of Sewing (specifically Roman clothing), displays of pagentry and chilvary. Whereas Tarius has been an authorized Rattan Fighter, a Rapier Marshal (including regional for over 5 years), an Archer, a story teller, a maker of cordials, a leather worker, an armorer, a habitual autocrat, an officer of the group, the leader of a 15 person household, and a general 'service' junkie.

Q: What other interests might you want to try?
A: Tarius has a desire to refine his armor making skills and to reauthorize in Rattan Combat, whereas Gaia wishes to expand upon her own Arts and Science skills.

Q: What do you see as the biggest issue in the group right now?
A: Shortly put, we both feel that the group needs direction and inspiration. Followed closely by the issues of recruitment.

Q: How do you feel about the groups that surround us?
A: We have friends in each of our neighboring groups, whether they be within the East Kingdom or within Ealdomere.

Q: Do either of you speak French? This is Quebec and if you hope to recruit, you should be able to speak French.
A: Yes we both do speak French. Gaia is fluent as french is her native tounge, while Tarius strugles at times.

Q: What do you think of the Principlaity movement?
A: We think that the growth of a Principality for the Northern Shores Region, now known as the Crown Principlaity of Tir Mara, is both a proper and natural advancement for the Canadian part of the Eastern Kingdom. Our heritage lie within the Kingdom, but the waters that nurture our growth flow from the proud northern waters

We have been asked a few more questions over the weekend, and here are some updates. July 19, 2010 - Addition #1:

Q: Have you ever been to Pennsic?
A: Tarius has attended Pennsic, but Gaia has not. Tarius enjoyed it alot, and considers it a worthwhile trip, but it is not the end all and be all of the SCA.

Q: What do you consider 'Pageantry' within the SCA? How do you plan on expanding it?
A: To us, Pageantry within the SCA consists of several parts; the traditions that a group sets forth, the displays of banners and heraldry, the courtly manners that a populace shows, and the degree to which the group 'uses' their Baron and Baroness. To try and explain it simply, Pageantry is what helps set us apart from people who get only together to wear 'funny medieval clothes'. Our plan to expand the Pageantry with Dragon Dormant is one that will take some time. It will require a cultural shift, but one that we hope that the group will enjoy.
